Yep, using savepoints, you can 'rollback' to a particular
point without closing the transaction. You can have
(I believe) up to 32767 "savepoints" in a transaction.

Subject: [HP3000-L] SigImage ballot: 'SQL savepoint'?
Item #11 on the SigImage ballot says:
"Support SQL SAVEPOINT in Image/SQL: (M).
"SQL has the concept of being able to mark a point
in the current transaction which can then be rolled
back to, using the SQL rollback work statement."
Is this roughly analogous to requesting "sub-transactions" within
a larger DBXBEGIN / DBXEND transaction? (I mean, except that the
"end" of a sub-txn is indicated by the beginning of the next
sub-txn, and no work is committed until DBXEND. I said "roughly." ;)
