For those of us playing the home version of Jeopardy (I'll take 'Mutant
Geniuses' for 300, Alex), Newton developed his 'calculus' so that he
could 'do' the kind of physics that he wanted. He published the results
of the physics, but did not publish his calculus. Later, Baron Gottfried
Wilhelm von Liebniz (1646-1716), a German philosopher and mathematician,
invented differential and integral calculus independently of Newton. He
also wrote that we live in "the best of all possible worlds", so he got
to be wrong more than once. Newton saw Liebniz' calculus, and a
fundamental error in it, so then publish his own work. However, Liebniz
notational system was more elegant than Newton's, and had the
opportunity to catch on by virtue of having been published first.

So, yes, not only do I not want to reinvent the wheel, but I really
don't want to invent the flat tire after someone else has invented the
wheel. I would love to help with this initiative in any way I can; we
have two new 3Ks, one for development and another for production, and
since we are just getting started, no one is doing much of anything on
either. I would love to at least alpha or beta test whatever us
available (I understand the compiling has been done successfully). We
are developing on an NT platform then porting up to the 3K; so we are
somewhat heterogeneous. I would like better integration, and this would
help.
