[log in to unmask][log in to unmask], 19 Nov 1996 13:34:00 -0500646_- I ran into this problem recently. The only way you can control
the print parameters is to send the escape sequences from the hp3000
to the printer, (this will work on laserjet 4 or 5's), the following
example show the exact syntax:

FILE LPCARL4;DEV=LPCARL04,10
ECHO %-12345X@PJL DEFAULT ORIENTATION=LANDSCAPE >*LPCARL4
ECHO %-12345X@PJL DEFAULT FORMLINES=66 >*LPCARL4
ECHO %-12345X@PJL DEFAULT LPARM:PCL SYMSET=ROMAN-8 >*LPCARL4
ECHO %-12345X@PJL DEFAULT LPARM:PCL FONTNUMBER=0 >*LPCARL4
ECHO %-12345X@PJL DEFAULT LPARM:PCL PITCH=16.67 >*LPCARL4
ECHO %-12345X >*LPCARL4

I have the spec sheet in my hands. Bullets include:

. DDS-3 format: maximizes reliability; capacity, transfer rate, and
     cost effectiveness

. High capacity: 24 GB with 2:1 data compression, 12 GB native.

. High performance: 2 MB/s transfer rate with 2:1 data compression
     1MB/s native

. Read-After-Write data verification for high data integrity.

     . Built-in hardware data compression.

     . Fast file search.

. Full read and write compatibility with all DDS-2 and DDS tape
     drives.

     . Advanced head-cleaning mechanism.

     Required kernel patches:

        MPE/iX 5.5 power patch 1. Power Patch 1 (C.55.01) or Express Patch
     1

        Comes desktop of internal.

That's all I know since I just received the data sheet yesterday.

We are looking at replacing our old DDS tape drive with a faster one.
At this stage, it was looking like being replaced with a DDS-2 drive
rather than DLT - our system just isn't big enough to justify the
extra cost of the DLT drive as well as having to buy Orbit's backup
software.

Anyway, last week I read that HP is releasing new DDS-3 tape drives,
claiming significantly faster data transfer rates. I was wondering
if anyone has heard anything about them - good, bad or other? If
no bad reviews, then I will hold off ordering a DDS-2 drive until the
DDS-3 drives are available - who knows when that will be in Australia
:-(
