I like the idea of leaving HPYEAR as it is (a 2 digit value, such as
96) and creating a new variable for the 4 digit year (1996) with
the name either HPLONGYEAR or HPFULLYEAR.

I strongly disagree with Tony's proposal of "biting the bullet" and
changing HPYEAR to 4 digits - I've got enough work to keep me
occupied without having to search through all my scripts & jobs to
find where I'm assuming HPYEAR is 2 digits. I would prefer to
schedule such a job at MY convenience sometime in the next year or
so, rather than being forced to do it so that I can upgrade to the
next version of MPE.

I also like the idea of having a single date variable in the format
YYYYMMDD, rather than having to build the date from the year, month &
day variables, stuffing around adding leading zeroes where required.
Please, please, pretty please, could we get this? HPDATER (ie. HP
DATE Reverse) maybe?
