As we ponder the possible names for a new CIVAR which reflects the value of
the year, let's not fall into the situation where we are mired in the
"BackwardCompatibility" problem. Years are (presently!) defined with 4
digits. It seems to me that we should bite the proverbial bullet and say
HPYEAR is the 4 digit year, as of a particular V.U.F And then hpSHORTyear,
or hpyearincentury become meaningful values for the 2 digit aberration!

Or do we imagine that the HP3000 will not be around in 2100.....:-)
