More than likely your getting blocked by something holding locks on some
of the SYSTEM views.  If you can log onto another session while your stuck,
try running SQLMON and see what your waiting for.  You didn't mention if
this was production/development/etc, but things to watch out for in general
are:
INSTALLING new Sections
VALIDATING Sections
UPDATE STATISTICS
GRANTs and REVOKEs
ADDing and REMOVEing
etc.

  Whenever you start doing these actions, you'll find that the system tables
(really those are just views, but details, details :) must be locked for the
updating, so you'll wait to acquire those locks, and otherwise may wait as well.

Subject:  Problem with impeded sessions in ALLBASE

I'm currently learning the DBA job at the college and am running into a
problem with impeded sessions when adding/removing users in ALLBASE to a
specific user group.

Everytime I try now to remove/add a user my session gets impeded and
causes the same for other users on the system.

We currently have 1265 users identified in the group and we are running
version G0.26 of ALLBASE.

Any assistance on this would be greatly appreciated as we will be adding
more users to do grading shortly.
