It's rare that ANYONE can correct or even amplify a Larry Byler post, but:

SCSI printers also support checkpoint recovery, so if you're willing to
invest in a new printer, the SCSI electrophotographic printers (part of
the HP 5000 family) will give you the same level of reliability and
recoverability that you have now.

Are there any plans to change this? It looks like PJL provides enough
information to do checkpointing as long as it's managed by the host.
