     David:

I manage a KS959/300 that also has an internal C1504B DDS drive. I only
very recently learned how to enable "hardware compression" on the drive.
HP has a command file in the TELESUP account that enables/disables both
compression and auto-eject of the tape.

You can get the particulars on the command file by simply PRINTing
     DEVCTRL.MPEXL.TELESUP.

Subject: DDS Compression

Just installed a 959/200 with a internal C1504B 8GB DDS drive. I had
assumed (incorrectly of course) that this drive would
accept 120 meter tapes. To my question: does this drive perform its 4 to 1
compression (90 meter backs up 2 GB native)
only with software based compression - tubostore:compress=high, or does it
use a conjunction of hardware & software compression.

TIA
