His name is Craig Shergold, and he doesn't want any more cards. The Make-a
Wish foundation has had to set up an 800 number to answer these queries.
He got better. He is still alive. And the Make-A-Wish foundation is
forever wishing that this chain letter would stop.
This urban legend does have some basis in fact, but it is still incorrect
at this point. He wanted the most get-well cards, and he survived. From
the 1996 Guiness Book of Records:
Greeting Cards
Craig Shergold of Carshalton, England was reported to have collected a record
33 million get-well cards by May, 1991, when his mother pleaded for no more.
Anything you can do to stop this legend would probably be very appreciated
by the Make-A-Wish people...
