Although I have not yet received 5.5, I can tell you that the answer is:
"Yes - you will have to upgrade your 4.5 box to 5.0 before restoring its
directories to a 5.5 box."  With respect to the files themselves, you should
be able to restore 4.5 files to a 5.5 system.
