VPLUS dates for year 2000

A while back, it was stated that by setting the JCW VSETNEXTCENTURY = 1
would cause VPLUS to handle 4-digit years.  I have a new application
which now has a field on the form that is large enough to handle a date
of MM/DD/YYYY.  In formspec, the DType of the field is MDY and I perform
a SETJCW VSETNEXTCENTURY=1 before I start my application, yet the screen
will format the date to MM/DD/YY after the ENTER key is pressed.
 
Does anyone know what am I doing wrong?  Any help would be appreciated.
We are on MPE/ix 5.0 PowerPatch 5.
