There have been quite a few postings on this subject already,
so at first thought I would leave comments on this one to others.
But the more I think on it, the more it seems like this is an issue
we don't want to leave unsettled; it is one of the keys to the
future (or lack thereof) of 3000-L. Therefore:

A few highlights from a three-screen post by Jeff:

......SNIP......
>Given recent events within CSY and the accompanying exodus of HP
>input to the list I don't want to do *anything* to discourage CSY input.
>It is a vanishing resource that we pioneered - an open, informal line to
>the labs without waiting for the annual IPROF meeting to get your 15
>minutes of contact.

I second that motion. There is no way just IPROF is enough (and
I've been volunteer Chair or co-Chair of IPROF since it started).
The last thing we want to do is get even less input from HP.

>I would like to thank Larry Byler, Larry Boyd, Jon Cohen, James Overman,
>and numerous others that continue to post to the list. I would also like
>to thank Mike Belshe, Steve Elmer, Steve Bitondo, Nicole Saeger, Jeff Vance
>and others who made so many valuable contributions in the past but most of
>whom are no longer directly working with CSY (or at least MPE).
.....SNIP....

Me too. You can talk about corporate organization and
structure and plans and etc. all you want. In the end, it's
still individual people that make things happen (or not
happen).

I concur with rest of Jeff's comments. I think he said what he
said thoughtfully and well. If it seems fair to modify the current
groundrules for third-party vendors a little, then so be it. As
long as the titles are resonably descriptive (i.e.: no more of
this "**** HELP HELP HELP ****" stuff when they're not really
technically desperate), and there are not hundreds of them, I
can hit delete fast enough that it's not a problem if I don't want
to see a specific post.

My $0.50 worth....
