This may come as a surprise to some, especially if you read the
information about the NetWare client that comes with Windows 95, but
Windows 95 clients are NOT supported with NetWare/iX. Pecular and
sometimes distructive things can happen.

This may also come as a surprise because it has not been documented
outside internal HP systems. (It is no fun finding this out only after
you call the Response Center with a problem.)

The following is finally going to be posted on Supportline and, I've
been told, a notice is being sent to all NetWare/iX customers on
support explaining the situation. Anyone concerned about using Windows
95 clients with NetWare/iX will find this notice disturbing since it
does not indicate HP's plans. I've been told that HP is discussing
which of two options for addressing the situation (neither of which is
do nothing) to pursue. As far as I know, a decision has not yet been
reached.

To be placed with Supportline:

Windows 95 support by Netware iX version 3.11A
________________________________________________

 June 4, 1996
________________________________________________

There have been many requests for formal support of the Windows 95
client with the product Netware iX version 3.11A. These have come from
Service Requests logged on the STARS system, and also direct requests
to the CSY Marketing organization from customers who have an interest
in this functionality.

Investigation of the functionality on this version specifically has
been undertaken and the current status is:

- Windows 95 clients are currently NOT supported with Netware iX
version 3.11A.

- Windows 95 clients are also NOT supported under the previous
  version Netware iX version 3.01B.

- A technical investigation is underway by the manufacturing factory
division
to determine a strategy for Windows 95 support on Netware iX v3.11A.

The factory will also continue to focus on improving the resiliency of
Netware iX v3.11A for currently supported clients, that are:

- DOS based client running a NETX shell or VLM based shell
- Windows 3.1 or Windows for Workgroup clients configured for
  a Netware 3.X workstation shell.

Please note that Hewlett Packard support personnel should always
suggest that for problems detected by customers using Windows 95, then
they should attempt to reproduce the issue on a supported client as
well. If it is successfully reproduced, then a valid service request
could be created and would be investigated by the laboratory.

Despite this position of not providing support for Windows 95, note
that the following problem has been investigated and resolved by the
laboratory for Netware iX:

5003-294884 Windows95 clients corrupt netware/ix print queues.
Resolved in Netware iX version B.11.10, available as
                General Release patch NTWEDB0
