Hi all,

[Regarding Mirrordisc/iX on MPE/iX 4.0]:

This problem really has me stumped. We haven't been able to
VSCLOSE <setname>; SPLIT on one of three mirrored volumesets
for several days because it has always been seen to be 'in use'.

VSUSER prints a header, but no users (unlike other sets, where
no header is printed and appropriate message something like
'no users reserved' or whatever). FSCHECK reports absolutely
no problems with directory, file labels, extent mapping or
locked files.

There are no users (other than operator or manager.sys) and
no jobs. SHOWQ and a deep examination of all active and dormant
PINs show no files open on the volumeset.

I did a RS early this morning and got an unprecedented shutdown
message (just before the final SHUT 6 message):

SYSTEM PIN 28 TIMED OUT (SHUT 9)

The system reset and reboot proceeded normally, even a little
faster than usual. PIN 28 is once again a system PIN, but I can't
find out what the process is or, naturally, what it might be doing.

Even with disc mirroring, one doesn't like to go for days without
a tape copy. I'm relieved it has recovered, but what was happening?
Any ideas?

Ron
