now if this isn't a plum silly question...
 
if a terminal loses its echo, isn't <esc><colon> supposed
to turn it back on?  i'm using r1 for windows (version 5.0) and
am connecting thru a dtc.  i'm wondering if r1 isn't somehow
gobbling the escape sequence up (or something...)
