I know this is a stupid question, please forgive me. Is telnet enabled
on both
machines? In SAM, look at Network Services. Normally this option is
enabled but
it would cause your problem.
  Other areas to check:
Telnet can be limited to certain IP address's
The Telnet port could be a different number on one of the machines.
Is there a firewall anywhere in the connection? It can really confuse the
issue.

Good Luck

There could be other issues as well. Have the 9000 users try connecting
using vt3k, or if the 9000 is on a version of 9.0, you may need to use
vt3k.dns to fully reach the 3000. Problem is the 3000 does NOT have
inbound telnet services *yet* built into the OS. You have to have a
telnet board mounted in the DTC and the DTC has to be managed with HP's
OpenView DTC Mgr software. Try the vt3k first -- I use it all the time
with no problems. If the HPUX users are going from xterms and want to get
better block mode emulation, make sure they're using a term type in their
window of 2392.

Best of luck!
