I just received a call back from RoseMarie Chiovari at HP,
and she confirmed that (at least at first), that they are
looking into a 'freeware port' available somewhere around
years end for MPE/iX. Its still a little early at this time,
but if the port is as well received as the NCSA httpd port was,
then potentially a supported product may be offered later.

Subject: Java Update update.
Item Subject: cc:Mail Text
As I said in what I wrote earlier, things in the Java world are
advancing on an hour by hour basis. For example, since my previous
posting today, *five* more vendors have announced that they will imbed
Java into their operating systems. From Sun's web site:
>April 30, 1996 - JavaSoft, an operating company of Sun Microsystems,
>Inc. (NASDAQ:SUNW) today announced a new licensing model for Java(tm),
>its core technology. The industry's leading companies will now embed
>Java directly into their operating systems.
>
>Apple Computer Inc., Hewlett-Packard Company, Hitachi, Ltd.,
>International Business Machines Corporation, Microsoft Corporation,
>Novell, Inc., Silicon Graphics, Inc., SunSoft, The Santa Cruz
>Operation, Inc. (SCO) and Tandem Computers Incorporated all intend to
>embed Java into their operating systems, which not only makes the power
>of Java easily accessible to the thousands of developers committed to
>each operating system, but also paves the way for Java to become a
>ubiquitous feature for end users.

So, HP, does this mean MPE/iX too, or just that other operating system?
