Let me first say that I'm a firm believer in Image logging!
Now with that said, I've also recommended that Logging be removed in several
instances, not due to any performance issues, but simply because the way
it was implemented made it highly unlikely that if the time ever came to try
and use those logs to recover any data that it would have been successful.
The users held a false sense of security in these instances. Luckily they
never had to find out for sure. I did recommend that it be reimplemented
after some additional changes were made, but...
Let me pose a question to the list. Looking at the benefits of logging purely
as a means of data recovery (no reporting off the log files), if your application
is not coded for logical transactions, would you still recommend the use of
logging, or would you recommend a hardware alternative (high availability
arrays, mirroring, etc.)?
