Okay, maybe it is complicated. Sorry. The generic issue you need
to resolve is this:

I only care about a specific set of SUBSYS applications.
Have these applications been submitted to the SUBSYS of
an Express that is newer than the SUBSYS I am currently
using? If so, then I want the latest Express SUBSYS so
I can get the new versions of my specific applications.

In your specific case, assuming you are running on the original
version of 5.0 (C.50.00), you will want to know whether Image/SQL has
changed in either Express 2 or Express 3.

To determine this, you will need to read the Communicators for these
Expresses. In the back is a matrix the documents the SUBSYS products
that have changed in each express. I was only able to grab the
Express 3 Communicator -- on page 8-2, you will see a table that
indicates that the V.UU.FF for Image/SQL has changed between the
pervious and the current release.

Therefore, you will need an Express 3 SUBSYS in order to obtain the
latest version of Image/SQL.

Note: for argument's sake, let's suppose that Image/SQL changed in
Express 2, but the V.UU.FF is the same in Express 2 and Express 3.
This indicates that Image/SQL changed in Express 2 but not in Express 3.
In this case, you would still need the Express 3 SUBSYS, since we stop
shipping the Express 2 SUBSYS when we start shipping the Express 3
SUBSYS.

Getting the Powerpatch 5 tape alone will not get you the latest version
of Image/SQL. Further, if there are Image/SQL patches in Powerpatch 5,
they are probably designed for the new (Express 3 SUBSYS) version of
Image/SQL. Since you don't have that version, these Image/SQL patches
would not qualify and would not install on your system.

So, bottom line -- read the Communicators carefully. I understand that
those matrices can be mind-numbing. (Heck, I know -- I've got to review
them each Express!) But the information you seek is in there.

Hope that helps.
