I just received this from a friend (thank goodness for friends... they
provide the greatest gift: the gift of time; without sharp friends to
detect things that we, in our busy days, miss, we would miss a lot more).

Turns out this is not a flaw in Java, but rather in Netscape's implementation
of it in their (horribly buggy, bloated, slow) browser.
