The Bay Area Regional Users Group (BARUG) is holding its next meeting in
Mountain View at theHewlett-Packard office, 351 E. Evelyn Avenue, on Wednesday,
May 15, 1996. BARUG is looking for speakers and sponser to contribute on its
Data Warehousing topic.

"What we/they did wrong" information is just as valuable (if not more) as "What
we did right". :-)

Discussions include...

1) What are the Questions in setting up a data warehouse? - implementation
politics, choosing hardware, operation systems, database, network, budgeting,
outsource vs in-house, implementation cycle, reporting writing. User
perspectives and war stories welcome.

2) NT vs UNIX vs MPE - what are the capabilities of the various operating
systems and how do they affect warehousing?

3) Modeling design consideration - tales of a successful site

4) Databases - [This should be covered by Vendor Presentations discussing
features of their products for data warehousing]]

5) Data Retrieval considerations - How does warehousing help/hinder
productivity? What should one consider up front, when building the network,
that affects data retrieval later? What about on-line vs client vs batch
oriented retrieval? What about broadcasting data into other presentation
platforms, such as the Internet, Lotus Notes, &c?

6) Accessing your warehouse thru a Web site - How is it done? How can you plan
for Web access as you design your warehouse? What is involved in retrofitting
a warehouse for Web access? What are security concerns? Access advantages.

In addition to the speakers (or as part of their participation), BARUG is
seeking sponsers to help cover providing the requisite munchies (hot drinks,
juice, & muffins in the morning, cold drinks & cookies in the afternoon).

If you are interesting in participating in these (or other related topics -
maybe you have a idea not covered above), please contact Ric Goldman
([log in to unmask]) at 408-764-5861 or Leslie Willoughby (
[log in to unmask]) at 408-745-7680.

Thanx, Ric
