We've had this happen a few times on our 5.0 system; in our case it was due
to a network software problem on the 3000 (httpd) which wasn't releasing
resources and eventually "ate up" all the available sockets; after which we
received general connection failures when we tried to connect. We had to
stop/restart the network on the 3000 to enable us to connect again.
