Ken, thanks for your complete explanation of the disk drive problem.  =
Two thinks struck me as I read it:
 
1.  If it is seen as a repair methodology problem, then somebody is =
missing something.  This does not cover the DOA or early failure =
situations.
 
2.  This business about HP saying they will follow-up and get back (a la =
Denver) and not doing it is all too common.  I had the same thing happen =
to me in Toronto.  I ws askung about cheaper software maintenance for =
software developers.  He got back to me, said he would look into it, but =
it would take awhile (this last September). I forgot to ask him to =
define "awhile".  Haven't heard since.  I guess I will have to clean off =
(ugh) my desk and find his number.
