Interesting choice of words.  When QUERYNM became available, my solution was
to :rename query,querycm and :rename querynm,query and wait for somebody to
complain.  They never did.
 
I don't know that I would have been as brave (back then) to replace QUERY
with a symbolic link to querynm, but it's the same philosophy (assuming that
they saved a copy of query(cm) somewhere).
