I've noticed an increasing tendency to get the "wrong answer" from HP
Support when we call in. Just some observations:

1) We were having problems with FCOPY returning 'BACKSPACE ERROR IN FROMFILE' on
some tapes. HP Support told us the that either our tape drive was dirty, or
we had bad tapes. Out of curiosity, I did a keyword search on HP's
   supportline page http://support.mayfield.hp.com/search/html/search.html
and found Document W1792453 which was the exact description of our problem
and a fix (which did work!).

Note: W1792453 is dated 10-13-92 and at the bottom of the page it says
"Service Request 5000-608034 has been logged for this problem and will be
    fixed in a future release."

As of 01-04-96, apparently this problem is still outstanding.

2) Documents more recent than 1993 do not seem to be available through the
search engine (e.g. SR50003248492 dated 06-28-95 is not available).

So: Before you make that call to HP Support, check their web pages first! The
    answer may already be there.
