Thanks to all who replied to my request for specialist
expertise. After reviewing your suggestions, and discussion
with the proprietor of my new temporary host, and the local
HP experts, here is what we plan to do:
1. loan a HPIB DAT drive and build copies of the programs.
1B.acquire a HP compatible SCSI drive for the new host
2. load the programs onto the 927 (sorry about the 1 verus I
before x, by the way)
3. recompile the COBOL on the new host
4. we are not sure if we will move our out of date PowerHose
software as is, or re-compile for the new cpu at their current version.
Conversion would provide better performance and UI, but may
cause a need to edit the old code to keep it operational in
the new version. We want to avoid this, as we intend to
throw away the whole system im September.
5. an issue is licenses, our temporary host has enough HP
licenses for us to keep the users serveed with minimal
distruption, but Cognos does not yet have an answer
regarding our need to change the license of the host to run
our obsolete version.
6. use the DAT to migrate a copy of the production data to
verify performance ot the migrated system.
7. iterate 6 until we are sure things are OK
8. set up client PC with updated W4WG compatible version of
Reflection 7.
9. the last day before the move, migrate the data for real.
10. Haul away the carcass of the 3000 (we understand that it
has no salvage value.
11. Salvage the SCSI drive for a deserving PC server, or the
SUN

In answer to a few respondants; yes, we recognized the
possiblity that the HPIB discs might not work in the new
host, that was one of the reasons for this posting. Yes, as
well, the problem had at least two parts (1. finding a cheap
reliable common mode to transfer the data and progeams, 2,
see what difficulties we might encounter in migrating the
applications (with or without salvage of the HPIB discs).

The sole technical issues yet to be worked out are:
1. PowerHouse - keep old version alive or recompile and debug
useing the more current version of our host?
2 Open View, we have been told by HP that we may have to
upgrade our host's version, as we will to using TCP/IP over
routers.

Again, thanks for the help you have all offered.
