These difficulties are not wholy related to HP3000 or MPE, however they
may be answerable here.
 
1)  Through virtual interfaces on a Linux box (fermi.domain), I have my
    HP3000 on the Internet (nexis.domain).  My login/service daemon is a
    bourne shell script.  The biggest problem I am encountering is the
    forced line-by-line mode, which does not hide passwords (and the
    annoying echo) of a login.
 
  Does anyone happen to know the Ctrl sequence to set the mode to
character by the server?  Users would not like to manually specify mode
character in telnet all the time.
 
  Also, has anyone had any experience remapping ports (ie port 5000 on
fermi.domain) to port 23 on a virtual interface?  How severely does inetd
have to be hacked to support virtual interfaces?
 
  One final question/observation:  The HP came up with a System HALT 6
message (s/42) on the console.  I observed it 2 days after the crash
came, but noticed no info.  I believe the system crashed during these
telnet experiments.  Are there any known ctrl or escape sequences that
could cause a system crash in MPE/V over a 4 port ADCC?
