Jim:
You mentioned that you have a tape drive on the Series 70, so just do a
FULL backup of the 70 (:STORE @[log in to unmask]@;*tapefile), cart the tapes to your
927LX, boot it up and do a :RESTORE @[log in to unmask]@;*tapefile;CREATE and your 927
should be loaded!!
We did a migration from a Series III (remember those beasties?) to a 950
several years ago and did it over a weekend with the STORE-RESTORE
method. Accounts, groups and users on the 927 will not be passworded nor
will UDCs be set. I seem to recall a DIRMIG utility to migrate the
system directory from the classic to the iX systems, but I'm kind of hazy
on how it's used. Maybe someone else on this discussion group can repair
the broken chains in my memory!!
And, unless you run some really off-the-wall applications, everything
should port to the 927 and come right up running (in Compatibility Mode,
of course). Once you've got the applications stable on the 927, you
might want to consider recompiling them with the Native Mode compilers --
they'll SCREAM compared to how slow they ran on the 70.
Enjoy your migration; have some aspirin handy (just in case...).
