Last night, I experienced a peculiar situation with out HP-3000/950
running MPE/iX 4.0. For some unknown reason, the system suddenly stopped
processing batch jobs. The jobs would log on to the system; however,
they would never run anything -- just sit there and look pretty. Even
HIPRI jobs would log on and not run any processes. From examining the
system log files via SYSDIAG (we log almost everything), it appeared that
sessions were not affected by this "lock up", but I don't have sufficient
data to draw that conclusion with confidence. When I logged on to the
system console this morning, I knew we were in deep stuff when I got an
UNKNOWN COMMAND NAME [CIERR 975] from a SHOWJOB command!

This problem has occurred on rare occasions before. A START NORECOVERY
is sufficient to clear the system and start it on its merry way. Right
now, I'm left clueless as to what causes the system to go out to lunch
from time to time. We didn't have any power interruptions, hung disk
drives, etc. that I could point a finger at.

Any suggestions?? Is this a known problem that might be corrected by 5.0?

Many thanks for your replies!
