I'm guessing that what you want is to have the Macs talk to the 3000 directly.

3000 Software: MPE/iX 4.0 & ThinLAN Link, -or-
MPE/iX 5.0 (TLL is bundled in)
HP also sells Appleshare server software for MPE 5.0, so that
your Macs could access files on the 3000.

Hardware: Comes with. That's how you're connected to the DTC.
You will probabally want to buy a 'Twisted-pair hub' which
has n-number of twisted-pair ports and one thin-ethernet
connector. You can get an 8-port hub for about $150.

Mac Software: In addition to Reflections, you'll also need Connection/3000
from WRQ. (About $200/copy?) You may need to upgrade your
                Reflection copies.

Sometime in early '96 HP is supposed to ship dial-in TELNET
for the 3000. I _think_ that recent copies of Reflection
                come with a TELNET driver.

Hardware: Depends on the Mac. Newer models (Powermacs) only need an
AAUI (_not_ the same as an AUI) adapter. Runs about $40.

Older models (II-series, SEs, LCs, etc.) will require a
                plug-in Ethernet card. About $80.

REALLY old Macs (Plus) and some of the laptops would require
a SCSI-to-Ethernet adapter. I wouldn't do that unless you had
a really good reason. (If you just want to connect to
the 3000, stick with the Shiva.)

NOTE: Stick with twisted-pair. You life will be much simpler.

As an alternative, you can buy Localtalk-to-Ethernet bridges.
Shiva sells some. MacWarehouse has the "microBridge TCP/IP"
for $450--it will support 12 Macs or Localtalk printers.
