Hi,

> We are looking at installing a 14.4 modem on our HP3000. What modems

Don't bother. Install a 28.8 modem ...the price difference is less than
the cost of the time you will use reading this email, most likely.

Recommend:
   USR Courier

Recommend AGAINST:
   USR Sportster.

The Sportster is cheap, yes. But, we've had 4 or 5 die, multiple
times. Check out: http://www.allegro.com/sportster.html for the story.

Key difference: the Courier is *designed* to be left turned on 24 hours
a day, the Sportster (and other cheap modems) aren't.

The cost savings is lost, by an order of magnitude, the first time you
have a user who can't logon because of a modem malfunction.
