You might verify that the HP3000 has Ethernet enabled. It's a setting in
NMMGR that can be reached by selecting NS Configuration (unguided), then
NETXPORT, then LAN1 (or whatever your network interface name is). Make sure
that both Ethernet and IEEE802.3 are enabled.
