Not quite. Read the file IODEVACC.DIAG.SYS to get a list of drives
(HP and non-HP) supported on the HP3000.
I have successfully installed two non-HP disk drives in our HP3000/922LX
(running MPE/iX 5.0 Push): one DEC DSP3107 and one Quantum Empire 1080.
However, despite the fact that the Quantum is listed in IODEVACC,
SYSGEN doesn't know it.
Solution: configure it as a DEC 3107 in SYSGEN, and you will be
able to use it after going through the standard procedure described
in the Volume Management manual.
I don't see any reason why one should not use third-party SCSI disks
on the HP 3000. SCSI is standardized well enough to ensure reliable
operation, and Quantum, DEC and Seagate disks should match HP disks
in terms of quality.
