>1. Just how good is Allbase?
Allbase is an excellent alternative on the HP3000. It will provide
the best price/performance alternative. I have found it to be
relatively trouble free.
>2. Can it support a large application?
You might find it to be limited for large applications primarily
due to limitations in functionality. Be sure to compare it with
other available RDBMSs available to make sure it will meet your
application requirements.
>3. How well does it interact with PowerHouse?
We have no problems using it with PowerHouse, although most of
our applications are TurboIMAGE based. Again, check your
application functionality requirements. You may also consider
PowerHouse limitations as PowerHouse is not yet relational
database friendly--we have one HP9000 PowerHouse application
that works with Allbase BUT we had to do some special coding
to work around the problems that we faced. The latest release
of PowerHouse has eliminated some of these problems but I
am not up to date with how they are working out.
>4. As far as Open Systems are concerned, how "open" is it?
Allbase is "open" with respect to SQL standards. However, if
you are developing client/server applications, it is limited
with respect to interoperability.
