hayes modems

has anybody out there used a hayes accura set up on a hp3000, or
do I need to get a OPTIMA? I know the Optima's work. I have a
2400 already set up and functioning .  I ordered some accura and
asked for tech support from Hayes and got a reply "if your 'unix'
machine 'polls' you may need a OPTIMA. so try the following
commands. OH BOY!
