     I'm not sure if you're running 5.0 or not but the posix side of things
     may have a utility called diff which does the same thing. I know it
     exists in the unix world and is pretty handy.

There is / used to be a product called SCOMPARE sold by Aldon which would
compare text files and highlight differences between them.  It was very handy
for identifying source code changes, etc.
 
Does anyone know if it is still around?  Are there some PD utilities which do
the same thing?

Yes SCompare/Compare are still around.  An excellent quality assurance tool.
