Any bar code can be generated via graphics or a font.
By using a font you will send less data to the printer in a production
environment
The font can be put into a cartridge so that you dont loose it if the printer
gets turned off or you can download it to the printer at the appropriate time.
HP have also announced flash ram or something similar which will allow you
to download a font and the font will stay in the printer memory after a power
off.
 
If you wish to use a 3of9 bar code just print the data surrounded by asterisks
eg *1234*
if you want to use 2of5 then your application must only output numerics and
must add each pair together and look the result up in a table and then print
that code.
Code128 is much more involved and requires a lot more programming to get a
valid bar code to print.
