Alternatives for "STREAM without passwords"
 
The ability to stream a job without passwords will consist of two
separate options. The first option allows the SM, AM and user
to stream jobs without passwords. The SM can stream all jobs,
the AM can stream jobs within their account, and users can stream
jobs with the same logon identity. The second option authorizes
additional users to stream the job without passwords provided they
have execute access to the job file.
 
Based on previous feedback, two implementations for "STREAM without passwords"
have been examined. We request your feedback to the following questions.
 
1. How often would the system manager want to change the setting of this
   feature?
 
2. Choose one: you would prefer to control this feature
               via sysgen or online via a command.
 
Survey results will be posted back to the HP-3000 list.
 
Alternative 1: Sysgen implementation
------------------------------------
Add new SYSGEN settings to a command in the misc configurator.
This implementation keeps configuration options centralized to a common
tool like sysgen. The changes are written to the configuration
file and survive boots.
 
Limitations:
------------
Changes to the sysgen configuration files require a reboot to take effect.
 
 
Alternative 2: Command implementation
-------------------------------------
Add new parameters to the JOBSECURITY command. The JOBSECURITY command is
allowable and may be put in the sysstart file. The new parameters would
require sm capability to execute. The settings are maintained with a
START RECOVERY and can be changed online by a user with SM capability.
 
Limitations:
------------
The existing settings are cleared with a START NORECOVERY.
