I have several more important things to do this morning, but none
will be as much fun :-).

Steve Verona responds to Ron Seybold's critique of his frenzied
advocacy of migration to Unix as follows:

>I would like to preface this response with a few points.

This gives Steve time to work on the configuration files he
needs for the response itself.

> First, I would like to point out that I work for DB-Net, Inc.

Ron did that already, but it never hurts to do things twice where
Unix is concerned. Or perhaps Steve's Unix mailer dropped the part
where Ron said "This poster works for DB-Net" because it was
preceded by a question mark in the original post and so was treated
as a comment.

>I must admit that some
>of my responses are a bit biased because I am the VP of Marketing.

Oh, come now. Any competent "VP of Marketing" should be
capable of completely unbiased advocacy.

>I am
>trying to educate the public to the fact that there is a viable solution
>to the proprietary system dilema. [sic]

Perhaps you should get together with Bill Gates; he's doing a similar
public education project. Oh, and "dilema" is missing an M.

>... you have many more choices for a database on UNIX than on the
>HP3K, therefore prices are more competitive yieldig [sic] a better value.

You should do somethig about that code. You certaidly should't go about
breathig it on everywod.

>As far as spooler software is concerned, have you ever heard of a UNIX
>daemon or line listener? These two things are included in your UNIX OS.

But what about spooler software?

>Backup software: Apparently you have never used tar (tape archives) or
>cpio (copy io). ...

That's obvious: Ron's data is still intact. Come to think of it,
maybe that's why you have a dilema.

>...These two things are also included in your UNIX OS.

... but don't worry; if you don't use them, they can't do any damage.

>...I agree that advocating migrations to everyone is irresponsible.
>That is why I do not do that.

I mean, heck, some people are ALREADY on Unix.

>I am simply pointing out an alternative
>for people to analyze on their own and with the help of objective
>information.

There must be a pony in here somewhere...

>I beleive [sic] that DB-Net offers...

"I before E except after C." If you'd been on this list long enough,
you'd know that. It's that Unix spelling checker again.

>I do think migration is the proper
>soltion [sic] for most people wanting to eliminate their proprietary systems.

Actually, migration is the ONLY solution for people wanting to eliminate their
proprietary systems.

I note that a lifetime of typing Unix commands seems to have rendered you
incapable of dealing with words longer than five letters. (Does somebody have
an MPE Spooler manual we could lend him?)

>One last point, you eluded [sic] to the fact that you think my response was
>irresponsible.

You must mean "eluted," which would be somewhat improper usage though quite
colorful. You can't possibly mean "alluded" because Ron didn't allude to
thinking you irresponsible: he stated it outright. He certainly wasn't being
elusive, as you allude.

>You should be informing people of the pros and cons of migrations...

Er... cons?

Respectfully submitted (in my unbiased opinion),
