I agree with Jim's message, but the marketing aspect is troublesome
for HP. To make the feature-to-feature comparison, HP must sell MPE,
Image, a third part index package, a third party replicator, etc. Four
pieces of software from three vendors.
To convience a buyer that it is an equally effective solution requires
getting them to understand the solution and try it. If I were inexperienced
with MPE or ignorant of the MPE marketplace, this approach to DBMS integra-
tion would frighten the hell out of me.
I have a number of acquaintances who make and sell these add-ons, so I hope
what I am about to say won't offend them. But for HP to sell the MPE/Image
combination to the rest of the world, they will have to buy/code these
add-ons and bundle them in with Image with a single, uniform management
interface. This will become more important as the 3rd party DBMS vendors
simplify their environments.
