OK, some more information about our setup (again, Elbert, correct me
if I'm wrong). The application uses an Image dataset to determine what
program gets run on which device. The PCs already have R7 up and
running. We don't need to do any redirecting, the devices that we
need to access are currently attached by serial link to the 3000. Each
PC will have its own IP address. We do have design control on both
the 3000 and the PC end. The application is written in FORTRAN/77
(flames to Elbert). We would be using TCP/IP over an Ungermann-Bass
network (flames to the original designers, not me!). Birket Foster
suggests using NewFace and letting it handle the address problem. That
would be fine if the connection was initiated from the client end (or
am I missing something?). The connections will be simple host to PC.
Jeff suggests inetd as a possibility. That is something we will look
at, you can be sure.

Anyway, I hope this gives you some more ammunition, ah, information to
arrive at an answer (esp. Jim W., who asked for it!).

I know the thoughts expressed here are my own because no one else would claim
them!
