Hi & before reading please forgive me, in advance, for my long winded
request.

I am looking for a contact who is running Quick screens over an HP 3000
w/4.0 or 5.0 with Telnet over a DTC telnet card or a DTC12TN (telnet box).
Also need to know if it true that telnet max. bytes per packet is 128
compared to NS/VT max. 1500 bytes/packet?

Any comments on real experience reatlive to HP config guide/HP First tech
docs graphing a DTC48 as capable of handling max. 40 concurrent sessions
character mode, but for performance recommendation for medium users in char.
mode (avg. 4 trans per min.) as only 10 users concurrent.

Is my understanding close that with O/S 4.0 on 3k you must have Openview PC
based management "DTC manager>=10.5", HP Telnet software and hardware reqmt
of a telnet access card (tac) in DTC (or DTC12in) in order for client who is
using a tcp/ip transport with client telnet services to do inbound/outbound
telnet with HP Host? Inbound from client - the client transports the
telnet packets over tcp/ip transport to the DTC Telnet Card which can
receive over tcp/ip where the DTC will convert transport to AFCP (Avesta
Flow Control Protocol) to HP?? Does outbound from HP get sent to DTC as
telnet over AFCP and converted at card to Telnet/tcp/ip back to client??
*Can someone confirm the overall process above as close? or wild ideas!? and
can someone verify the HP software component required. As well, is AFCP the
transport for all activity from between DTC and HP regardless of access type
(ie..serial/telnet. etc..)?

Another of my understandings needing confirmation? With 5.0 the tac card is
optional (o/s now capable of handling telnet over tcp/ip - increase load on
cpu)?

We have NS3000 & Thinlan/xl & have been using NS/VT and modem access for
external users and are considering some telnet access due to common user
complaints that they must buy at minimum HP emulator (ie..wrq
reflections,etc..) and optimally HP proprietary NS/VT protocol drivers
(ie..wrq vtmgr.exe, rnnsvt.dll, etc..).

A few of the external users we are trying to accomodate have standard
(novell) TCP/IP stacks and subnets on the same network we are on (Univ. of
Mich) all others either are on their own lan or no lan. So adding on to
the search for HP sites with telnet...I am hoping someone can pass remote
acc. possibilities on to help us accomodate our ever growing out of control
external user base? Please share any access options with pros/cons?

THANKS for your time. Stephanie Evich, [log in to unmask]
