Reading CD-ROMs from the host-based CD-ROM drive was a fantastic idea,
but the implementation was obsolete when introduced. It is based on
Microsoft's MSCDEX which implies a DOS-based stack as it loads a TSR
on top of MSCDEX. Further, it uses the same socket as the OpenDesk
mail clients.

If they'd rework it for Winsock compliance (the client) they might have
something. But the current incantation is unusable garbage. We bought
the $%&#$ thing (client license) and it's useless, it's sitting under my
desk unopened pending my return as it appears there are no plans to do
anything with it. In an earlier thread on this subject, it seems there
were only a handful of users that actually expressed an interest (I was
one, Isaac Blake was two, and somebody else...) At least the CD-ROM
drive may prove useful for system updates.
