MPE/iX - What Is the Meaning of a System Abort #25?

Question

What is the meaning of a System Abort 25 (SA25)?

Answer

NOTE: The following information relates to a specific system abort on a system running the MPE/iX operating system. It is strongly suggested that a memory dump be performed for any system abort that might be encountered and that memory dump then be analyzed by the Response Center in order to determine the exact cause of the failure. Without such analysis, it is not possible to accurately prescribe a fix or workaround for the failure.

SYSTEM ABORT #25 FROM SUBSYSTEM #113 (Low Level I/O)

No entry in message catalog for warning #25, subsys #98.

Details:

System Abort 25 (SA25) is a bugcatcher abort, which was integrated into the system to trap out a condition that would normally result in a System Abort #1047 . The purpose was to isolate the cause of a Telnet buffer corruption issue. It was, in fact, successful in identifying multiple causes of the issue. A memory dump is suggested in order to verify the cause of the failure.

Common occurrences with known fixes/workarounds:

SR# 8606390714

On releases 7.0 and 7.5, this failure can occur due to a buffer length issue in the Telnet code when a break sequence is present in a data buffer. See patches PTDHDD7 (for release 7.0) and PTDHDD8 (for release 7.5).

SR# 8606398859

On releases 7.0 and 7.5, this failure can occur due to a buffer length issue in the Telnet code. See patches PTDHDE6 (for release 7.0) and PTDHDE5 (for release 7.5).
