For disk allocation purposes, generally not. I.e., you usually won't "run
out of disk space" just because your system is fragmented, as could happen
on MPE V.
But, as Craig pointed out: yes. A highly fragmented file uses many entries
in the Extent B-Tree table ...
if you run out of them, you crash.
Our BFREE and De-Frag/iX are two products that can help make more Extent
B-Tree entries available.
