Found the IXX36431 install file for the USL group.)
I tried to stream the job but it came back with:
Processing TMPDIR:-/tmp
^
Variable name encountered, but variable is not defined (CIERR 975)
So I guess it was intended to be run out of something like Patch/iX or Autoinst so that variable would be pre-set.
Then I looked over the whole job and it boils down to setting newlinks in /bin, /etc, & /usr
The commands are already there in /SYS/HPBIN in all caps and other groups. (They were restored from the INVENT3K machine backup, from when I knew they worked.) So I think the links were merely lost.
So I tried a newlink on one of them manually and lo and behold I went into the shell that one command worked.
Bringing the job on my screen I removed the exclamation point column and hit all the newlink commands in reverse order with the HP-ENTER key.
The POSIX shell works fine now.
