Good morning, all:

First a big THANKS To all who chimed in on what the error was and/or how to correct it. The full backup ran correctly this week, and I can't be sure which 'fix' did the trick (could even have been a combination of the three fixes).

Here's what I did:

a) Removed a several DB's that we had restored onto the system to research some historical data prior to the backups aborting.

b) Cleaned the DLT drive two more times (had just cleaned it on the first of May (and do so on the first of every month)).

c) Used a brand new tap (old tape(s) had only been used a few times, though).

So, as noted, no telling which fix actually worked, but it's now working and we finally have a full backup!!

Again, thanks to all who helped!!

Subject: Full backup aborting

Hi all,

Been awhile and hope all are doing well. I lurk weekly, but haven't had any issues until now. We've had our full back up on Friday nights abort several times now and not really able to discern why - sometimes it works while other times it doesn't.

Here are the most recent abort messages from the last full backup in the order they appeared:

"Store encountered media write error on LDEV 8 (S/R 1454)"
"Specifically, Store received error -354 from the IO system (S/R 1557)"
"Store experienced error while attempting to verify media on LDEV 8 (S/R 1469)"
"Specifically, Store received error -40 from SUBSYS LLIO"

After these errors the store was hung, so the job was manually aborted.

As a test/fix, we're swapping out the 'not very old DLT tape' for a brand new DLT tape to see if that makes a difference. We use a single tape for full backup and alternate week to week between two different tapes, so it's hard to imagine two DLT tapes that worked perfectly well all of a sudden going bad at the same time, but hey, things happen. Also, the daily, partial backups work just fine (each day has its own tape).

So if any of y'all have any pointers, please let me know?

Thanks, and as previously noted, hope all are doing well!
