I remember some 30 odd years ago a clever operator in a job would redirect showdev to a file then read the file in EDITOR or TDB looking for the keyword AVAIL or UNAVAIL along with the (W).
Since the result for SHOWDEV was always the same the keyword would always appear on the same line number in the editor file.
I don't remember if the showdev was specific to a certain ldev or did they use the class TAPE.
