Before I start, we do disk to disk backups first, and copy them to tape afterward.  We always keep the disk to disk backups online and only purge them upon the next iteration.



At one time we did partials, but frequent ad hoc restores to other accounts (for test purposes) were dependent on going back to the full to get it all.  So anything required two restores which was annoying.  Because there was always some static file that maybe got updated every other week.  So it didn’t (qualify for the partial) that also had to be restored.



We still do a Full once a week.  For Dailies we specifically backup certain accounts as though they were a Full, just not the entire system.



Our Fulls are copied to LTO3, Dailies to DLT4.  Keeps them down to one tape per iteration.  Tape rotation for Fulls are about a year.  Tape rotation for Dailies are 2 to 3 months.



CSLTs once a week also.



Once a year we yank a Full for permanent retention.
