Couldn't you just change the record length in Reflection?

Thanks to all for your input.  With -donna's help, I was able to accomplish the task by opening
an ftp.arpa.sys session and did a GET OLDFILE NEWFILE;REC=-2263.  It worked like a pro.

As Tom said in like life, in file transfers binary is better,  ASCii has a habit of getting lost in translation. Of course what you are opening the file with at the receiving end, and what character set encoding it is using  may turn what is completely legible on the HP3000 into garbage, how many little square boxes can you see?
